Ptosischirurgie is een corrigerende ingreep gericht op het herstellen van hangende oogleden, die de pupil kunnen bedekken en het zicht kunnen belemmeren of een asymmetrische uitstraling kunnen creëren. Deze aandoening kan aangeboren zijn (congenitaal), zich ontwikkelen met de leeftijd of door een verwonding.

Ptosischirurgie, ook wel blefaroptosiscorrectie genoemd, wordt doorgaans uitgevoerd door een oogarts of een plastisch chirurg gespecialiseerd in ooglidcorrecties. Het doel is om het hangende ooglid te liften om het gezichtsveld te verbeteren en een evenwichtiger blik tussen beide ogen te creëren. Afhankelijk van de ernst en oorzaak van de ptosis kan de chirurgische aanpak variëren, waarbij de levatorspier (die het ooglid lift) wordt ingekort of een slingoperatie wordt uitgevoerd waarbij het ooglid met de voorhoofdspier wordt verbonden in gevallen waarin de levatorspier zwak of niet-functioneel is.     De hersteltijd varieert. Patiënten kunnen vaak binnen een week hun normale activiteiten weer hervatten, maar het kan meerdere weken duren voordat ze volledig hersteld zijn.
