Facings zijn dunne, op maat gemaakte schildjes die de voorkant van de tanden bedekken en zo hun uiterlijk verbeteren. Deze schildjes worden op de tanden geplakt en veranderen zo hun kleur, vorm, grootte of lengte.

Facings kunnen gemaakt worden van porselein of van composietmaterialen. Porseleinen facings zijn beter bestand tegen vlekken dan composietfacings en imiteren de lichtreflecterende eigenschappen van natuurlijke tanden beter. U dient met uw tandarts te bespreken welk facingmateriaal het beste bij u past. Het plaatsen van facings omvat doorgaans drie bezoeken aan de tandarts: één voor een consult en twee voor het maken en plaatsen van de facings. Eén of meerdere tanden kunnen tegelijkertijd een facing ondergaan.

Recovery Period

    Meestal zijn er na het eerste consult twee bezoeken nodig en het herstel duurt ongeveer twee tot drie weken.

    Patiënten kunnen na elk behandelingsbezoek direct hun normale activiteiten hervatten.

    Het duurt meestal een paar dagen tot een paar weken voordat u volledig herstelt van gevoeligheid of licht ongemak.

Potential Risks and Side Effects

    Gevoeligheid van de tanden voor warm en koud vanwege het verdwijnen van het glazuur.

    Hoewel het onwaarschijnlijk is, kunnen facings losraken en afvallen. Door geen harde voedingsmiddelen te eten en uw tanden niet te gebruiken om verpakkingen te openen, kunt u dit voorkomen.

    Zodra de facings zijn aangebracht, kan dit proces niet meer ongedaan worden gemaakt.

Alternative Treatments

    Bonding en kronen zijn de belangrijkste alternatieven voor facings. Hoewel bonding minder duurzaam en minder permanent is dan facings, bieden kronen een volledige tandbedekking, maar vereisen ze een uitgebreidere voorbereiding van de tand.

Tandfacings hebben doorgaans een succespercentage van meer dan 95% over een periode van 10 jaar.

Procedure step-by-step overivew

    Eerste consult om de doelen van de behandeling te bespreken, röntgenfoto's te maken en afdrukken van uw mond en tanden te maken.

    Bij het tweede bezoek wordt ongeveer 0,5 millimeter glazuur van het tandoppervlak verwijderd, wat ongeveer gelijk is aan de dikte van de te plaatsen facing. Nadat het glazuur is verwijderd, wordt er een nieuwe afdruk gemaakt en naar het tandtechnisch laboratorium gestuurd voor het vervaardigen van de facing.

    Het laatste bezoek vindt meestal een paar weken later plaats, wanneer de facings klaar zijn. Voordat de facing permanent op uw tand wordt bevestigd, plaatst uw tandarts deze tijdelijk op uw tand om de pasvorm en kleur te controleren. In dit stadium kunnen er nog aanpassingen worden gedaan. Zodra alles perfect is bevonden, wordt de tand gereinigd, gepolijst en geëtst voor een sterke hechting. De facing wordt vervolgens permanent op de tand bevestigd en overtollig hechtmiddel wordt verwijderd.
